Tesla China is surveying stores to select locations for the first six-seat Model Y L display units. The new variant features a longer wheelbase, three rows, captain seats in the second row, and up to 751 km CLTC range. Launch expected later this year.

Reports from Chinese industry watchers suggest the Tesla Model Y L has officially entered mass production at Gigafactory Shanghai.

The Model Y L is a larger, three-row, six-seat version of the best-selling Model Y, featuring a longer wheelbase and two captain seats in the second row.

According to filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Model Y L will include:

  • Dual motor all-wheel drive
  • 82.0 kWh LG Energy Solution battery
  • 751 km CLTC range
  • Eligible for vehicle purchase tax exemptions in China

Tesla China is currently surveying its stores to determine which locations will get the first display units, suggesting showroom arrivals are near.

Production on the existing Model Y lines means lower tooling costs and faster ramp-up. The Model Y L could open Tesla to a broader three-row SUV market previously served mostly by the higher-priced Model X.

Some investors believe the spacious design and premium second-row seats could make the Y L an ideal option for Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet, combining comfort with manufacturing efficiency.

Notably, the source who first shared this production update has previously provided accurate Model Y L details.
