Another Megapack milestone is here. The Tarong Battery Energy Storage System in Queensland just energized its high-voltage transformers a critical step before full commissioning by mid-2025.

Project at a Glance:

  • Capacity: 300MW / 600MWh
  • Location: Tarong Power Station, South Burnett, Queensland
  • Megapacks: 164 Tesla Megapack 2XL units (38 tonnes each)
  • Cost: $514 million
  • Power: ~101,000 homes for 2 hours

Impact:

  • Jobs: 80 full-time construction jobs + 6 permanent
  • Renewables: Helps stabilize grid & lower electricity prices
  • Stage: Final phase before operation
  • Partners: Stanwell (Queensland Government-owned) & Yurika

Tesla Connection:

Stanwell signed a 12-year offtake deal with Tesla to manage storage services using Megapack software part of a growing Tesla-powered storage fleet.

Editor’s Note: This is Tesla’s silent empire Megapacks, software, and grid dominance. While headlines focus on cars and FSD, energy is quietly becoming Tesla’s strongest recurring business.

The Tarong BESS is more than a battery. It’s a roadmap to Australia’s future and Tesla’s global energy strategy.
